One of my friends once shared this on Facebook: “Practice the pause. When in doubt pause. When angry, pause. When tired, pause. When stressed, pause. And when you pause, pray.” I really thought about this long and hard and you know something? How many fights could have been stopped if we paused rather than acted, re-acted, or overreacted? How many misunderstandings could have been avoided? Would our jails still be overcrowded? Would there be less buried? How many emails would you like to take back?
Boy, I look at myself and know that if I would pause more, I wouldn’t make such silly decisions! It’s something that I am beginning to practice more. I’m emotional and sometimes too overly sensitive and impulsive. This means, I really have to be more consciousness to stop and take time to think before acting. This is imperative in business to take my time and re-read my reply to ensure that I say the right thing with the right tone especially since I’m not in front of the person I’m emailing.
I know God doesn’t want me to rush through my life and I believe it’s one of the reasons He gave me my hubby. He takes his time before making decisions. He really weighs the pros and cons and even does extensive research especially when he and I have to make a purchase for the business. We both made not-so-great personal financial decisions before we met and understand the consequences.
Choices, good and bad, have long arms and they affect more than just myself. It’s not about me, it’s about my hubby, our future, my relationship with others, my spiritual life… choice affects everything. I’m telling myself now, “push that pause button”!
