It’s Love Day!

We typically focus on romancing on Valentine’s Day, but love doesn’t just stop there, it encompasses much more. I’ve always thought of love as a strong emotion only and while we do feel this way about those we’re close to, I believe it’s actually more of a decision. When we’re old enough to leave home, we begin to choose for ourselves… like the friends we have, whom we marry, even to love God.

I am blessed to have a few close friends and I’ve known them many years. We’ve been through all the ups and downs and we’ve seen each other at our best and worst. There are times when the friendship was struggling to stay afloat and we had to work to make it afresh again. The same thing with my hubby. Love requires investment, because feelings change like the wind. Not everyday do I feel in love, not everyday do I feel “like” or “love”. But there is something deeper inside me where I choose to love my friends, my husband, etc. And I thank God that He loved me enough and all of us to give us the choice.

One day, which is coming faster and faster for me, that hair thins and turns gray and white, the bones become feeble, and more doctor visits come, but what I have with my hubby and friends is strong enough to love them. If we move away from close friends, which happened when we left Florida to come to Oregon, the love is still there.

What about God? David said it best in Psalms 116:1-2: “I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.” I’ll not understand the love of God and just how much He loves me, but it sure is a good feeling to know He does. I think everyday should really be Valentine’s Day!

I pray that you will enjoy today with your family and friends and count the blessings of having them around you. Don’t let any days go by without telling them you love them. It’s sad that in some families, relatives haven’t spoken for years. Life is too short to hold grudges. Let God’s love permeate you today and spread it around. We all need love.
