I know it’s been a whole month since my last post, but believe me I’ve been a busy girl! So, I thought I’d talk about what’s new in my life + what I’m looking forward to this Fall. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons because I’ve always loved the colors changing, the cool temps and that Christmas is near.
On the Oregon coast, we keep mild temps but you can still tell that it’s Fall. Right outside my window are orange and red leaves falling from the trees. The colors on those leaves are just amazing. Hubby also loves this time of year for photo taking.
So, another thing I love in the Fall is drinking hot cocoa with marshmallows because it’s cool enough but not frigid. I also love dipping a chocolate bar in my cocoa mug…mmmmmm….. Now typically I wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate for the Holidays but I’m thinking of changing that by decorating my studio with white pumpkins and silver Christmas balls hanging from the wall. I recently fell back madly in love with neutrals when I re-decorated my office.
And speaking of office, I just started selling my handmade greeting cards at my local Art Center and I’m stoked! I’m working on Christmas card designs right now as well as giving a makeover to my cards that I made a few years back. I spent a small fortune (paid it back though!) on crafting supplies, one of which is buying the Big Shot Express die cutting machine by Sizzix. It was a big investment but I absolutely love this machine, totally electric so no more hurting my shoulder using a manual machine that you have turn the handle to use.
I also was given a lot of cardmaking supplies by a dear friend which I couldn’t begin to put a price tag on. She gave me scrapbook papers in 12″ x 12″ and 8″ x 8″ sizes, punches, acrylic block for stamping as well as a bunch of rubber and cling stamp sets. I also traded my portable Cricut trimmer for the Carl Heavy Duty Rotary Paper trimmer and boy am I glad I did. This puppy cuts straight every time and I really needed a trimmer that didn’t require pulling out an extended arm to cut paper at 11″ or at 5-1/2″. Now it’s easier for me to cut card bases with 12″ x 12″ papers and the trimmer can cut through several sheets of scrapbook card stock paper which I love so that I can have pre-cut sheets ready when I’m making cards.
I’ve also been learning a lot about handmade cards on YouTube and I plan to participate in a live cardmaking video on Facebook next week, looking forward to that. The cards I started out making were mainly using my computer but creating from scratch is a whole nother animal and there’s a lot for me to learn.
|Two cards I recently made using a combo of scrapbook papers, embossing, and decorative edgings + sequins and on the first card, I used Nuvo drops to embellish the finished look. And, both with matching envelopes.|
And rest assured, I haven’t stopped crocheting. Can you believe I only have two projects on the hooks right now?! Yeah, it’s true! I’m working on a Fall sweater with Lion Brand’s Heartland yarn and I’m making a headwarmer to match.

It’s taking me awhile longer for the sweater, it’s a more involved pattern, although it is so pretty, so I hope to have it done before December. I really can’t wait to get it finished so I can wear it.
In addition to all the crafty things I’ve been up to, on a personal side hubby and I volunteer for “Food Backpack for Kids” ministry which helps feed at-risk kids is our area. It’s a real problem here that our church identified years ago and work hard to combat it. So, every Wednesday morning we go to our church with a bunch of other volunteers to help pack bags with nutritious foods for the kids. It’s so rewarding because if you have followed me a long time, you know that both hubby and myself battled hunger ourselves. I just think this is not something a child should have to battle.
Another life update is that Monday, the 15th, I celebrated 10 years with my day job with the Hispanic chamber. I began working for them in 2008 as their Exec Assistant and from there promoted to Director of Interactive Communications. I handle their website content and design as well as marketing promos online and social media. Really proud of this accomplishment as it’s the longest I’ve been with any organization.
The chamber has allowed me to grow as a creator and I’ve met some wonderful people along the journey.
Finally, “My Journey to a Healthier Me” is a huge success, I’ve lost about 45 lbs., since I started walking, watching the carbs and sugars. I’m also doing some upper body strength exercises and it feels good to be getting rid of my big tummy! LOL!
Well, I guess that’s it for now. Thanks for reading! Also, some of the links in this post are affiliated to my Amazon account which means if you make a purchase using any of my links, you’re helping me earn a small commission to support my blog. Thanks again, see ya soon!
